In 2005, a Division I Football Player at La Salle University sustained a concussion during a practice. He was cleared by the medical staff to return to play two weeks later. In a game more than a month after his first concussion he sustained a second concussion. Rather than the reported mild symptoms experienced during his first concussion, he was momentarily unconscious immediately after the hit, regained consciousness and was combative for several minutes, and then collapsed. He 1 reportedly lapsed into a coma, a presentation consistent with second impact syndrome.
